About Me

Describe Yourself:Take your standard Oliver North. Add strong parts of Bill Cosby and Sir Robert Baden-Powell (the founder of Scouting). Throw in Johny Bravo without the "hurhhs!" and his pecks. Add a strong dose of parenting, the sexuality of a latin lover, and Mona Lisa's smile. And give me a 40 year old's body frame. That's me basically *grinning*

Cathi L., Jul 5, 2009, 12:55PM EDTMike, man, I've got to say I'm delighted to received your friend request. First off, I noticed to things about you which are near and dear to my heart, scouting and Army.
My husband is a 25 year scouting veteran, I'm about at 14 or 15 years. My youngest son attained Eagle in September of last year. My oldest didn't attain Eagle. We had to move from Louisiana to Missouri right after his 9th grade year and he had only two merit badges and a project left for his Eagle.
The move was devastating to him and he lost the drive. The troop that we finally joined had no interest in encouraging him, in fact, they had no interest in me, his mom, who at that time had 9 years into scouting and was fully trained. But, alas, I am a woman.
At that point it would have been us, not my son, pushing to complete the Eagle and that's not what it's supposed to be about. He went that far and it was an incredible experience for him and us and he can only be proud for how much he accomplished.
He joined the Army in 2005 and is now a veteran.
My husband recognizes you and rattled off Black Eagle before I could check out your other links and sure enough, there was Black Eagle. He corresponded with you on Scouts-L a few times when he was a Cubmaster in Georgia around 96/97 and we had both used your knowledgeable writing as a resource on Scouts-L after that.
I do keep a Gather group that strictly relates to the military. I would be delighted if you would join and if you write articles within that subject, feel free to send them my way. It can be located at Michael Yon Dispatches.
Again, thank you for the friend request. I'd be honored. Happy 4th of July to you! -
Kathy W., Jul 4, 2009, 4:37PM EDTWow, having read your profile, I believe you are one very interesting mix of a person!
I don't fit many forms and molds, (got kicked out of girlscouts in the 60s because I stood for a friend...) but love my family and peeps.
Beloved niece in Iraq, serving; and nephew going to "the rock" in 6 days (for 2 years.) Brother was Navy. Gone now.
Wishing you, sir, a happy 4th. A celebration of the freedoms so many have fought in so many wars to maintain and project. (No, I really mean "project.")
And also, to protect. So, I thank you for your years of service on this national day of respect. And I wish you well in the upcoming year of freedom. Let us bring our soldiers home, safe and as quickly as possible, and give them all possible respect and support as they re-enter the civilian (commercial) world.
Blessed be to you and yours today,
Wilka -
